Foundations in Patient Experience Course

Patient experience can sometimes be seen as an add-on, something that is nice to do but not critical. However, patient experience is indelibly linked with patient safety and clinical effectiveness as a cornerstone to providing high quality and safe healthcare.

This course supports participants to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to make meaningful improvements to people’s experiences of care, whatever their role may be.

I would really recommend this course. You’ll find a warm environment where you’ll be able to look with other people at some of the challenges you face in your role.

Accreditation

The course is CPD-certified and accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management.  Participants benefit from one year’s membership of the Institute, providing access to free online resources.

Who is this course for?

Previous participants have held responsibilities for patient experience, quality improvement, and involvement and engagement in health and care services. We also have participants working in healthcare research as well as patient partners.

The course has the potential to reconnect staff with their professional sense of purpose, building resilience and supporting staff wellbeing.

For me, it struck a perfect balance between teaching, interactive and discussion time. There was also time to deeply reflect on the learning, both on a personal and organisational level.

Our approach

  • The course is practical and interactive, and draws on lived experiences of care from staff, patients and carers’ perspectives.
  • The sessions are recorded and uploaded to a password-protected resource page, where participants can also access courses slides and resources.
  • The course promotes peer learning and offers opportunities to develop supportive professional connections beyond the course.
  • Participants will be supported to complete a project in their own setting, advancing their own organisations’ priorities in either patient experience, quality improvement or engagement and involvement work.
